One project that is a highlight of Alex is his Actor Replacement. It's an old Lost Boys classic shot where the students insert themselves into a movie scene. It's a favorite project of mine, having supervised over 180+ Actor Replacement shots!
The first challenge was finding the right costume. Alex scoured the internet to find a replica of the jacket worn by one of the Joker's goons. Due to delivery schedule conflicts, he ended up ordering two jackets. Thankfully, the second jacket arrived before the first, and we were able to use that in the shoot.
Under Ria's expert guidance in makeup and lighting Alex and the Green Screen, Ria and I managed to shoot several takes of Alex closely mimicking the original actor's motion.
It was a week later when I resigned from Lost Boys to start Alpha Chromatica. While it would be noble to say I left to captivate and inspire today's hard-to-reach youth (people are not that hard to reach these days, and there is plenty of inspiration out there already), I left for a simpler reason: I wanted to do new things.
Under the guidance of Andrés Lara Seedorf, Alex was able to push forward and composite himself into the shot. There was a lot of paintwork involved in removing the original actor from the film and placing himself in the scene. He also had to rotoscope each individual piece of his outfit to properly color-correct himself to match the scene. Another aspect he's really proud of in the shot was creating the artificial compression that matched that of the original 1989 film.
Alex believes in embracing the journey, confident that with persistence, dedication, and a supportive community to share ideas with, anyone can achieve greatness. He encourages aspiring artists to relish the learning process, knowing that with time and effort, they'll elevate their skills to new heights!
Hang tight for Part 3, folks!
